Success is Perseverance

Webster tells us that perseverance is:
to persist in a state, enterprise, or undertaking in spite of counterinfluences, opposition, or discouragement, [or banged shins, broken wrists, strained muscles, sore hands, pure exhaustion, mental numbness, tired babies, running out of tape, running out of boxes, piles of trash and undesirables, pouring rain and no internet]

Ok, so I added the last part…

Can you guess? Yeah, we’re moving; house sitting, actually, for some friends while they are on sabbatical.

Moving is a lot like reaching for success. You are really excited about it at first, and then you begin to understand that it’s going to take some work, work that you have to do even if you don’t want to do it anymore.

Problems crop up and you work through the solutions. [A Mentor of mine once said that you can’t have a problem without a solution, because without a solution it’s not a problem…, I’ll save that for another day.]

What problems are you running into? I lost my biggest help for the move. My oldest son dove out of a tree on the 4th of July and broke his wrist. The solution? His sisters get more exercise! I keep bashing my shins on everything shorter than 24”. The solution? Slow down, anything under the box I’m carrying is a dangerous monster.

How’s your move toward success? Lose your biggest helper? Keep bashing your shins on things that are just under your radar? Find the solution, it’s there. Spread out. Attack the loads in smaller “sister” sized chunks. Slow down and keep your eyes focused to the front and on the box you have in your hands now. Stop looking at all the other boxes; you’ll get to them in turn, one at a time.

Fill the van and drive it to the destination, you’ll need to make several trips.

But, please, don’t forget along the way to periodically, stop and enjoy how much you’ve accomplished so far.

You can do it!

Despair <==> Prosper

I’m sure you probably know the definition of the word Despair. But, just in case here’s what Webster says about despair:

•? to lose all hope or confidence
•? to lose hope for
•? utter loss of hope
•? a cause of hopelessness

The root of the word despair is sperare that’s Latin for hope .

And what is hope? Again Webster says: hope = expectation of fulfillment or success.

So, Despair is the utter loss of the expectation of success. What a terrible thing to have happen.

I think we can find a speedy solution. Have you heard the phrase “Godspeed” or “Goodspeed”? The movie “The Rock” with Sean Connery and Nicholas Cage has the main “Good” guy named Goodspeed, Connery liked to call him Godspeed.

Anyway, the word speed comes from the same Latin root spes [sperare] and our buddy Webster tells us speed means: prosperity in an undertaking: success.

Ah-Ha! So, Godspeed means God Bless you With Success ! (So, I knew the the good guy would win in “The Rock.” His name gave away the ending! )

Stick with me here!

Prosper, or Prosperity, it’s all about money, right? NOPE. It’s all about Hope and Success.

Catch on yet? ProSPER come from the SAME Latin root sperare ! Webster tells this little secret about prosper: Latin pro-sperare to cause to succeed.

- to succeed in an enterprise or activity
- to achieve economic success
- to become strong and flourishing
- to cause to succeed or thrive

To Prosper is to have hope in your success. It’s not about money at all. It’s about life, your willingness to have hope in your successes: Success in reading, success in learning, success in love, success in your family, success in God, success in money, success in peace.

You can be “Sow Success”-ful …

I know, I know. If you already have success then you don’t need to sow it in order to reap it. You’re thinking if you had your first million dollars already, you’d not have to do anything to earn it.

It’s lucky for us that we can sow success without actually having it first.

What?!? Isn’t that silly? How can we sow something we don’t have?

Remember the Mayans we talked about?

Well, they didn’t plant “whole ears of corn” (success), they planted seeds.

Where did they get those seeds? From someone who already had a full crop (of success).

It’s the same for us. Success works just like the corn; you gather the seeds of success from those who are successful in the area you want to be successful.

If you want to be successful in corn; go gather or buy corn seeds. If you want to be successful in real estate, gather or buy real estate success seeds. Learn all you can, plant the information in the soil of your mind, add plenty of water, get some sun and eat your veggies! And before you know it you’ll be harvesting a crop of success!

Every Law of Success is like a seed. Plant them and keep planting them until you have an entire field of success sprouting up around you.

Sure, it’ll be hard work. Sure, you might sweat a little. But the rewards will be great and you’ll have new seeds for next season. And if you are truly blessed you’ll have seeds for the next generation of success farmers.

That’s the kicker, giving back. There’s no vindication of your efforts finer than helping someone else succeed using your seeds of success.

You can do it!

North …

Compasses start off with no predictability, the needle swings all over the place and points to no place. They’ll point in any direction until they become MAGNETIZED.

Once they become magnetized they only point North. They have their purpose and they follow it. They obey the natural laws of their situation in order to achieve success, success in finding true North.

Oh, but you say, “a compass can be pulled off course by a strong magnet, something that gets its attention.” This is true. But, the effect is only temporary, the compass once again points North when the interfering force is removed. That’s because it “knows” the necessary laws to bring it right back on course.

People can become “magnetized” in the same way – magnetized by their chosen purpose and goals in life.

To become successful like the compass you must magnetize yourself; your mind, your body and your spirit for success. When you focus your physical and spiritual powers this way, nothing on Earth can stop you from becoming successful.

Imagine what can happen in your life when your focus becomes magnetized. Having a strong conviction of your goals will energize your mind and body. When you are truly dedicated distractions loose their power. Nothing and no one will have the power to detract you from success.

You can do it!

Here’s to your “Magnetic” Success!

In the Past…

Do you think about success and say “I can’t be successful, because in the past I was unable to make it.” Phooey! Stop living in the past. The past is done, it’s over.

Sure, the things you’ve done in the past may still carry consequences today and tomorrow, but you cannot change them. Let them go.

The Past is not a lasso around you, it’s a rope that on one end is anchored in the things you’ve done and the other end is in your hand. You grasp it for fear of letting go will allow you to spin out of control. Just let it go.

Your future success depends on what you do NOW. Most things don’t go right the first time you try it. The classic example is learning to ride a bicycle. You fall and you have to get back up and go again. Once your mind learns the “rules” for keeping your balance you’ll never forget them.

The same is true for success. Sure you might wreck from time to time, but you just have to jump up and climb back on. You won’t forget how to be successful; you just need to find a new trail to follow.

Education is the key.

Learn all you can and practice what you learn. For by learning you’ll be prepared to swerve around the potholes and stay out of the ruts.

Bumps will come and go, but my favorite thing to do with a bump is to fly off of it. A bump can bring you down and skin your knees, OR if you approach it just right you can ride up it and sail off the other side free as a bird.

Learning what the bumps are and how to handle them takes knowledge and wisdom. Knowledge can be learned from a book, but Wisdom is learning how to use that knowledge.

Let go of the rope, you’re only holding yourself back.

You can do it!

Kernels of Success

They learned to predict success. They watched the sun, the moon and the stars and learned when to plant their crops.

You see, corn was Power to them, much like money is today. Success was measured in corn.

And just like the Mayans, if you want success, or power, you must learn the laws of success in your “field” and follow them with diligence.

Success, like the lottery, doesn’t often come by just sitting back and wishing. You have to enter to win. But, Success doesn’t depend on a random occurrence of the right set of numbers; Success depends on you and your understanding of the “natural laws” that lead to success.

How much corn do you think would have come up each year if the Mayans only depended on luck (the lottery) to give them their harvest? Not much, I’d say.

The Mayans enjoyed the fruits of their labor, their harvest, after a season of good, strong, productive labor. Effort goes in and success comes out.

Even if they only planted a hand full of seeds, they would return with some success. Maybe only a few meals, but, ahh the sweet taste of success when you know YOU accomplished something.

More importantly, the Mayans would set aside some of their success to recycle back into the field. And the next time around that handful was a pan full, then a basketful, then an extra field full. And before you know it you’ll, I mean they’d, be sitting on a Mountain of Success and looking for ways to give back to the community.

Not so many become successful on accident. You have to realize each success is governed by a set of recognized principles of success, not luck or a set of stars that were in a line upon your birth.

You will succeed by mastering the laws that apply to your area; you’ll never have to depend on luck!

You can do it!

Throttle up!

Many of you have talent and a little bit of determination, but you still haven’t hit the big leagues.

Did you know that a baseball player is in the Big Leagues if their batting average is just .350? That’s only 3 and a half hits for every 10 at bats! 10% less, 2 and a half hits for each 10 at bats, is a .250 batting average and you’re stuck in the Minor Leagues.

The Minor League player may be a much better runner and fielder (talent), but the Major League player gives that extra 10% effort and has more determination when the ball is coming at him 90mph. Just getting the ball in play 1 more time is what he has spent his time working on.

Sure you have to run and be able to catch the ball. But, 10% more when the money is on the line is what counts.

You’ve got to cross that line. Do IT! Don’t stop on the line, you cannot be a “mugwump.” You cannot sit there with your “mug” on one side of the line and you “wump” on the other. You have to step wholly over the line.

Be a line crosser. You are either in the game or you’re not. You cannot stand on the field if you are not a Player.

The key to success is simple. You learn the rules, you follow them and you WILL succeed! You are only avoiding success if you don’t try. You can learn the rules to success, if you want it badly enough.

You can do it!
Here’s to you success,
Zack

Can you give 10%?

Can you give an extra 10% to your efforts?Big changes can occur when you give an extra 10%.

Don’t believe me? Let’s have a look.

Let’s say you want to take an extra week or two of vacation this year but feel that you’d be shorting your business if you took it.

10% is an extra 6 minutes every hour. That’s an extra 48 minutes a day in an 8 hour day. I’m not saying work 9 hours; I’m saying come in 6 minutes early, leave 6 minutes late. Shave 6 minutes from one of your breaks and cut that hour lunch down to 30 minutes. You’ve just created 10% more effort in your day.

So what about that vacation? 10% extra works out to be:
48 minutes a day.
4 hours per week.
16 hours per month.
208 hours per year.
That’s 5.2 extra weeks per year!

I think an extra week or two of vacation is in order! You’re not shorting your business anymore; you are actually working several weeks harder.

That’s what I call a WELL EARNED vacation!

Big changes can take place when you add 10% to your effort, perseverance, or enthusiasm levels. The results can produce a gigantic change.

The point is, 10% isn’t much. You can do it!

Here’s to your success,
Zack
